Haiti Disaster Appeal THANK YOU
We are very pleased to report that the special showing of The Comedians on Sunday 7 February at the Rex Cinema in aid of the Haiti Disaster Appeal raised around £1,000.  A very big thank you to all of you who came along and supported this event and a special thank you to the Rex staff who made no charge for their services and donated the income from ice cream and bar sales to the appeal.

WAKING NED (PG)

According to the local newspaper someone in the village of Tullymore in rural Ireland has won millions on the Irish lottery but who is the lucky person?  Ian Bannen and David Kelly play ‘two old codgers’ who manage to identify him only to discover that he died of shock before collecting his winnings.  The two devise a devious plot to try to seize the millions but will they succeed?  Charming performances and easygoing humour characterise this most enjoyable film.

Thursday 18 February - Supper 6pm, Film 7.30pm

SAVING GRACE (15) shown by kind permission of Sky Movies HD

Brenda Blethyn plays Grace, who has led an uneventful life until discovering when she is widowed that her husband has left her nothing but enormous debts.  In danger of losing her home she turns her hand to a bit of gardening to help make ends meet.  However the pot plants that she is growing are not those that most of us would find in our greenhouses and Grace has to go into the murky London underworld to find a buyer for her crop!  Great fun although as the warning goes “don’t try this at home”.  A truly British comedy.

Supper before the film is a JACKET POTATO with a choice of 3 fillings - Chilli or Vegetable Curry or Chicken and Mushroom

Tickets: £10 supper and film, £5 film only
Available from:
Orchard Tea Room 01929 554716

Goodbye to the Lookout Cafe

Our last ever film show at the Lookout was a sell out on Thursday 29th October.

The main feature, a fascinating documentary about Mark Bittner, who cared for the wild parrots of San Francisco, focused on someone who was trying to help and understand the natural world but this was preceded by a short film emphasising the harm that can be done to it.  We were delighted to welcome Saffron Summerfield, a singer, composer and sound artist as well as being a film-maker, who introduced her film Mermaid's Tears.  Saffron had used Kimmeridge Bay as the setting for her film and explained that Mermaid's Tears are the small plastic pellets, the waste product of the plastics industry, washed up on shores around the world which end up in the guts and stomachs of fish, birds and sea mammals, causing great harm.  The two films made a fitting end to our evenings at the cafe.

We have been showing films at the Lookout Cafe for 5 years and shall miss this cosy and welcoming venue.  Thanks to all the Lookout people who have been so helpful and supportive of the Festival over this time.  We look forward to returning to Durlston Castle when it reopens in 2011.
